Love At First Stroke

Hello stylish folks !!!

I have been getting loads of questions from friends and people in general as to what fashion illustration is and what it entails, so I thought to create a post and share some of my stuff with you.

Drawing has been my favourite pass time from as far back as I can remember. Growing up in an artistic family was really great because I was given the freedom of self expression through various means.  Mom usually jokes that I was born with a pencil in my hand...lol. She noticed my artistic tendencies early on and she fueled it by encouraging me and showing me a few techniques. Her friend got me my first box of paint and a brush for my second birthday and I remember going to town on all the walls at home. It was "Love At First Stroke".

My love for fashion and art broadened over time and the fusion of both progressed into fashion illustration. Designing and illustrating outfits and fashionable pieces is a whole process involving creative decisions and sometimes its easier than others. I must say that coming up with forms, shapes, cuts and all can get your hair in a knot but if you love it, you gotta do it. So, here are two of the earliest pieces from my portfolio, pieces that brought me work and looking at them in comparison to my current stuff is funny, because its amazing how much I have grown.

This is Margaret, the young girly girl who loves fun and lives in heels. She is also a little bit edgy hence her hair colour. Maggie is wearing a multi-tiered baby doll dress in African print.

Jane is the fearless and successful career woman who loves to make bold statements with her outfits.  She's wearing a black satin and lace wrap blouse and a champagne asymmetrical wrap skirt, paired with strappy black sandals and a strong red lip. This look is appropriate for the work place and with a little switch in accessories will make for an easy transition to evening.

So there you have it people, the chronicles of the young illustrator...lol.  Until next time, STAY STYLISH, you never know who's watching.

 Fierce Love,
   Francis.
